Trailing+NON%2DSTOP+FLOWERING+Busy+Lizzie+Izzy+Wizzy+Red
Key Information:  Product Code: TBLRED

Name: Trailing NON-STOP FLOWERING Busy Lizzie Izzy Wizzy Red

Description: The Busy Lizzie is one of the most popular plants amonst gardeners, giving a huge array of colours and now available as a NEW trailing variety. Busy Lizzies can now be used to provide delicious colour in even the most challenging of places. Despite the popularity of the Busy Lizzie, 'Impatiens Wallerina' has always had an upright habit so creating full hanging basket displays required the use of many plants but now with the NEW trailing Busy Lizzie this can be achieved with ease, providing you with this unique cascading habit. Botanists had searched for many years to find a way of making the Busy Lizzie ideal for growing in hanging baskets and with the help of the rare Impatiens usambarensis, which grows in the usambara mountain range in Tanzania, south of Mount Kilimanjaro, botanists found that by crossing the two plants they were indeed able to develop this NEW revolution in trailing Busy Lizzies with the much sought after cascading growing habit. These cutting raised Impatiens have large flowers with a very generous trailing habit. Three plants per 12 inch basket will produce the vibrant and colourful displays illustrated. Busy Lizzie Izzy Wizzy will reward you with strong and healthy growth and in addition to this they are both heat and rain resistant, standing up well to our British Summers and providing you with generous blooms late into the autumn. Impatiens which are lovingly known as Busy Lizzie, were originally found in the tropical forests of Zanzibar and named Impatiens Sultana after the Sultan of Zanzibar. They were then given by Horace Waller (a British missionary) to Dr John Kirk who was a naturalist and brought them to England in 1896 and they were renamed Impatiens Wallerina, in honour of Horace! Oh, and why are they called Busy Lizzies? Well Lizzie was a good friend of Horace and always busy collecting the seeds of these new found Impatiens which in the native form would scatter freely and impatiently in the breeze, but the New Generation have been bred so the seeds are infertile to protect the quality of the plants which have been developed. Busy Lizzies can be treated as perennials if over wintered in a frost free environment and make a wonderful display if used on window sills or as conservatory plants. They can then be re-selected for use the following year as required for outdoor planting.
