LARGE 70cm+ Climbing Plant - Passion flower - Passiflora caerulea 'Constance Elliott' - EVERGREEN CLIMBER. This Hardy Perennial Climber has been container grown so can be planted at any time of the year.
Passion Flower 'Constance Elliott Passiflora' makes a beautiful, white-flowered alternative to the popular blue climbing vine, Passion Flower 'Caerulea Passiflora'.The beautiful Cornish Cream White flowers of this Passion Flower are full of fragrance and are sheer delight on a summer evening. These climbing plants make rapid annual growth each year as they cling with tendrils. Passion Flower vines won't damage brickwork or fences but need suitable supports to grow on. Passion Flowers are in bloom from mid-summer onwards and, after a warm summer, it is not unusual to find large orange-yellow fruits forming. These can be left on the plants for decoration. They are edible but do not have an outstanding flavour.
The Passion Flower was given its name by missionary priests in South America who saw a resemblance between the flower and elements of Christ's passion. The ten flower segments were said to represent ten apostles (Peter and Judus were not included), the corona the crown of thorns, the five stamens Christ's five wounds and the three stigmas the three nails.
Passion Flowers are easy to grow, and 'Constance Elliot' will reward you year after year. This jewel of a plant can be planted in the ground or in a pot, and its masses of beautiful showy intricate fragrant Cornish Cream White flowers will cause anyone to gasp in its presence!
